“Beautiful one day, perfect the next.”

The Whitsundays are famous for their postcard-perfect conditions — and June is one of the absolute best times to experience them. During this time of year, consistent southerly winds sweep through the region, creating the ideal playground for downwind paddling. In fact, it’s the same reason Hamilton Island hosts its major sailing events throughout June.

Expect warm, dry days, crystal-clear water, and temperatures between 27–31°C. Even better — it’s outside stinger season, so you can enjoy the ocean stress-free.

But this isn’t your typical Whitsundays holiday.

Many people have visited the Whitsundays… but very few have truly experienced them.

Beyond the cafés, resorts, and tourist hotspots of Hamilton Island lies another world — remote outer islands only accessible by boat, untouched beaches, turquoise channels, and endless ocean runners waiting to be surfed.

Have you ever paddled from island to island across tropical blue water?
Have you chased downwind runners through the Whitsundays on a surf ski?

Most people haven’t.

That’s exactly why this trip exists.

We’re opening the door to an unforgettable Whitsundays paddling experience — one built around adventure, progression, fitness, and exploring parts of the Whitsundays that few people ever get to see.

Picture yourself waking up to 30-degree tropical mornings at The Airlie Beach Hotel, relaxing in your own private apartment with a comfortable double bed. You head downstairs to meet the group for coffee before strolling across the road to the beach for a guided yoga and mobility session with your coach.

At 8:30am, it’s a short 200m walk to the Airlie Beach Marina where the real adventure begins.

Two speedboats are waiting — one for the paddlers and one for the surf skis. Every day is carefully planned around the wind, swell, and tide so we can deliver the best downwind conditions possible.

Soon you’re standing on a secluded beach in the middle of the Whitsundays surrounded by like-minded paddlers, ready to launch into an epic downwind run between islands.

From 10am–12pm, you’ll surf runners across turquoise water while Coach Luke Horder follows alongside on the support boat, coaching you in real time. Luke will teach you how to read the ocean, when to work, when to surf, how to connect runners with less effort, and how to move more efficiently across the water.

Your technique and stroke will also be filmed throughout the session, giving you professional downwind footage and feedback to review back at your hotel room later that evening.

Whether you’re completely new to downwind paddling or looking to sharpen advanced skills, this trip is designed to fast-track your progression. Before each paddle, we break down the conditions, explain how the ocean is moving, and show you exactly what to look for in the swell patterns and ocean curvatures so you can paddle smarter and faster.

Safety is our highest priority.

With both Luke and Glen Horder on support boats, plus VHF radios clipped to your life jacket, you’ll always be connected and supported out on the water. By selecting the right level group and carefully managing each session, we ensure the experience feels both safe and incredibly enjoyable.

By midday, the group arrives at another secluded island beach where your dry clothes, lunch, and drinks are waiting for you.

Spend the afternoon however you like:

  • Swim in crystal-clear water
  • Explore the island
  • Join a yin yoga session
  • Relax on the beach
  • Or simply enjoy an afternoon nap in paradise

At 2pm, it’s time for the second downwind session of the day before zipping back to Airlie Beach around 4pm.

After time to shower and relax, the group heads out for dinner and drinks at a different restaurant each night. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the day’s paddling, review video footage and stats, and share stories over great food, wine, and desserts.

This trip is about more than just paddling — it’s about accelerated learning, fitness, adventure, and immersion in the ocean.

What you gain in one week here could easily take a year to develop back home in Sydney.

These trips also give you rare access to extended coaching time, allowing you to dive deep into the finer details of ocean movement, downwind strategy, and surf ski technique while spending the week exploring remote islands with a group of equally passionate paddlers.

To ensure the highest-quality experience, this trip is strictly capped at just 10 paddlers.

The more wind we get, the bigger the adventure. Some days may feature longer and faster runs as we maximise the conditions, while every session is carefully planned around the forecast to create the best opportunities for progression and enjoyment.

And remember — we have speedboats.

That means we can position you in the best possible locations every day so you can spend less time worrying about logistics and more time downwinding your brains out.

No matter your speed in this Level 4 group, the structure is designed so everyone stays connected and supported. We can stagger starts, create regrouping points, and ensure the group always stays within sight of one another.

With two downwind paddles per day — often 15km or more each session — Luke and Glen will be constantly moving between paddlers on the support boats, making sure everyone feels safe, confident, and looked after.

Communication is key.

Partners and non-paddlers are also welcome. Your accommodation includes a private apartment with a double bed, and partners are encouraged to join the breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and social side of the experience so they truly feel part of the adventure.
