MAGNETIC ISLAND L2.5/3 TRIP

JULY 18th - 25th 2026 - Own room/double bed - shared apartment 7 nights, 6 Day Surf ski hire, Ocean Coaching & all transport around the Island.

Magnetic Island “beautiful one day, perfect the next”. Lucky for us, in the month of August has prevailing Southerly winds. The weather in this part of Queensland is dry and sunny with average day temps 25-30 degrees, while Sydney is freezing and raining. This time of the year it not the stinger season, so nothing to worry about.

Now picture yourself waking up in 25–30-degree weather from The Peppers on Blue Resort which offers you your own room/double bed in a 2 bedroom apartment. You can also choose to bring your partner and have your own apartment (extra $450). You stroll to the cafe for a coffee with the group and then make your way to the 30min yoga/stretching class. From here we grab our paddling gear and head off for the first downwind of the day.

On the Peppers on Blue resort marina is our 2 x speedboats one speedboat takes the people, and the second speedboat takes the surf skis. We drive out from the Island and place you in the right spot for you to downwind back to the Island. We can drop you out as far or as close as you like or how you feel on the day. Then the 2 speedboats are following you and we coach you from the speedboat. You guide you when to paddle and when to surf, what to look for and how to manoeuvre the surf ski more effectively. You are also filming you on the downwind run so later in the day you can review yourself going downwind and see the suggestions we are making to you.

Late morning we are back at the Peppers on Blue resort for you to rest and setup for lunch. At 12:30pm - 1:30pm we have an optional video session in the room where we talk through downwind videos and provide you the tools you need to improve as a downwind paddler. Then we are off for the second downwind session using the same formula as the first session. Put you in the right spot so you can go downwind and finish back at the resort.

On this trip you are there to learn all the skills of going downwind, whether this is all new to you or you are looking to improve, we ensure before each paddle we outline what you are looking for with the ocean curvatures and how to use them to go faster. We outline all the safety precautions and make sure you are always in communication with Luke Horder via radios, this will make the whole downwind run feel very safe and enjoyable.

We will be finished around 4pm where you have time to rest, shower and change to meet us for dinner and drinks at a different restaurant each night. We get to celebrate each day’s success and review video footage and stats over a few glasses of wine.

If there is a light wind day then for fun, we do the 35km circumnavigation of Magnetic Island as a fun team relay event. In fair teams of 3 people each person paddles 12-14km and we will see which team is first around the island.

Other Activities

We will take you on the Forts Walk - a 90-minute return walk to the WWII ruins overlooking the Coral Sea and daily stretches and core workouts are delivered around the paddle sessions.

Evenings

There are a range of restaurants on the island that we will take you to each night in our 14-seater van. The restaurants do split bills to make it easy. The evening dinners are the highlight as we get to share the fun, we all experienced each day over a few wines.
