September Newsletter

Its Spring! Time to revamp yourself with paddling...

Everyone needs a goal. Here is why!
Before you go to bed you set an alarm based on your upcoming goal, when your alarm goes off the self talk starts again. The upcoming goal will deliver more positive self talk and this will lead to your next action, are you going to stay in bed for another hour or are you getting up and going paddling.

Let us help you find that goal ..... For flatwater inside Sydney Harbour there are 3 upcoming SHSC Club Champ events (10km) to train for plus the Mosman Marathon (20km/10km) Dec 7th. For the ocean there is Moon Island Sep 21st, North Bondi Sep 28th, 20 Beaches Oct 19th, WA Race week Nov 26th-30th.

Perhaps you want to increase your paddling speed as a goal for September! Or you aim to go up a class level in September or take on our Saturday ocean class, the sky is the limit, just find a GOAL whatever it is and stick to it for a couple of weeks and see the results.

The Difference Between Perception & Sight

This a great opportunity to get all Sydney Harbour Surf Club paddlers together for social drinks in the Harbourview Room at the Middle Harbour Yacht Club and to help raise $ for the Sydney Eye Hospital.

Venue: Middle Harbour Yacht Club, 75 Lower, 75 Parriwi Rd, Mosman NSW 2088
Date: Friday September 27
Time 7.00pm - 9.30pm

MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND

Join us for a fascinating exploration into the world of perception and sight. Have you ever wondered how our brains interpret the world around us? Or why we see things differently from one another?

Dr. Con Petsoglou, Ophthalmologist, Sydney Eye Hospital; Senior Lecturer, University of Sydney and Director of the NSW Medical Tissue Bank, and Ralph Kerle, a renowned Australian photographer and kayaker, delve into the complexities of perception and sight, shedding light on how we make sense of the world. Whether you're a psychology enthusiast or simply curious about the way we see things, this event is sure to be an eye-opening experience.

The evening will feature the world premiere screening of a short film entitled "Ralph's Eye," shot around Middle Harbour. The film is intended to serve as inspiration for anyone facing a disability, showing how challenges can be transformed into unique creative expressions.

The event includes refreshments, vibrant entertainment, courtesy of the Road Captains and a live auction, the proceeds of which will be contributed to the Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation.

Don’t miss this evening of intrigue, inspiration, enlightenment and entertainment.

Look forward to seeing you all there

Club Champs - Sat 28th September
Race 4  - Rose Bay Clubhouse

Club Champs is so much fun! We have 6 x Club event races for the year and we take your best 3 results to see who are the Club Champs in each gender and age group. Each event is 10km and the course is picked the day before for best conditions.

The first race you do, you cant win. We gather your moving time and the next races you do you receive a handicap start time based off your moving time. We then have a race where we know everyones moving time and we handicap everyone so that the entire field finish with a 100m sprint at the end.

We laugh and support each other with everyone enjoying the cafe hangout afterwards. Each event you can see your progression versus yourself and others.

We encourage you to come and have a go!

Scroll to the date on the SHSC App and book in! A week before the race we will send you a “form” to confirm your surf ski type and your moving time so we can set up the handicaps.
