TRANSFER OF WEIGHT

The transfer of weight in paddling is very important from the right stroke to the left stroke. It is important that we transfer the weight through the pelvis because the pelvis is sitting in the seat which is the deepest part of the ski and we want to transfer the weight on the right stroke to the right butt cheek and then on the left stroke transfer to the left butt cheek. If we try to transfer the weight through the shoulder from one stroke to the other stroke, we will tip the boat from side to side causing drag.

In paddling all our mistakes happen on our rails, because we pull from the shoulder and arm too much and fall over the rail causing the surf ski to tip from side to side resulting in drag.  We need to sit up tall in our seat and pull from the hip and glute plus rotate the torso and do all of this while staying inside the rails.
