BIG NEWS!

We have a Downwind Bus!

.

Sydney Harbour Surf Club is investing in fun! Every Saturday we will run downwind drop offs for everyone, even if you paddle elsewhere we welcome you to come and join us in some ocean fun.

Starts Saturday October 5th, Northern Beaches.

Eastern Suburbs starts the following week Saturday October 12th.

Our mission is to bring the paddling community together for ocean paddles where we can enjoy the company of other paddlers, improve our ocean skills and achieve this with a low cost service that makes ocean paddling quicker and easier with the limited time you have available on a Saturday morning.

How it Works

We run Saturday morning ocean drop offs for our Mosman clubhouse people on the Northern Beaches, Sydney and for our Rose Bay clubhouse paddlers we run Saturday morning ocean drop offs for the Sydney Eastern Beaches. You can hire a SHSC surf ski and be dropped off using our transport service or you can bring and load your own private ski which is a bit cheaper. The Wednesday before each Saturdays ocean session will be an announcement of where the Saturday ocean session drop off location and finish location will be based on the mission which is to put you in the best spot possible to use the wind and swell for a downwind paddle. If its a flat day with no wind and swell we will offer you a cool and unique ocean adventure where you can achieve an ocean paddle from A to B a place you hadn't thought of before.

The Benefits

The van and trailer will meet you at the finish location, you simply load your own surf ski onto the trailer (straps supplied) or use a SHSC surf ski then jump into the van and enjoy the music and fun times as we drop you off to the best start location for that particular days conditions. You will then be in radio and safetrx communication with the paddlers around you and make your ocean paddle journey back to where your car is parked at the finish. If you are on the 15km ocean paddle expect to have the whole morning finished in 2 hours and if you did the 8km paddle expect the whole mornings adventure to take around 1.5hrs. Its your ocean paddle so be out there as long as you want or race it if you need to continue on with your Saturday. As paddlers, we all love a coffee hangout after the ocean paddle so hang around and enjoy the company of others paddlers.

What Level of Paddler?

The first time slot on a Saturday morning is the 6:30am ocean drop off for level 3/4 type paddlers, people who have ocean experience and are looking to be dropped off to do their 15km ocean paddle with a group of people similar ability and to finish the paddle where their car is so they can head off to continue with their Saturday or lounge into a coffee and croissant at the cafe with the group.

The second time slot is 7:30am and this could be a level 2-4 type paddler, meaning the more ocean experienced paddlers can be dropped off at a location to do an upwards of a 15km ocean paddler and the lesser experienced ocean paddler can be dropped off to do an 8km ocean paddle. Again the paddle finished back where your car is so you can make a quick getaway or get changed and roll into the cafe.

The third time slot 8:30am is more for level 2 type ocean paddler where you will do a 8km ocean paddle with the safety of having a coach with you. The coach will teach you how to use safety equipment, what to be aware of when in the ocean and how to use the ocean so you start practicing the fun part "catching runners".

The last time slot of the morning is our 9:30am Intro to Ocean Class where you paddle with a coach and get a taste for the ocean. The session is extremely safe and teaches you the basics of ocean paddling to help progress you up to the other levels.

Each time slot caters for every level of paddler, so start in one of our levels and progress your way up to a component ocean paddler.

The Cost

- Single ocean session with transport drop off (6:30am or 7:30am time slot) hiring a SHSC Surf Ski = $25

- Single "Coached" ocean session (8:30am or 9:30am time slot) with a coach & hiring a SHSC surf ski  = $32.50

- Single "Coached" ocean session (8:30am or 9:30am time slot) with a coach using own private surf ski = $25

Ocean Paddle Drop Off Locations

Below is a snippet of ocean drop offs we have available. We also have many up our sleeves so every week we can keep on surprising you and put you in an amazing locations you haven't seen before.

Our Mosman Clubhouse paddlers and other Northern Beaches paddlers could enjoy being dropped off at the following locations for some downwind fun!

For Lighter South/South East/South West conditions we would aim for an ocean paddle that minimises travel time so you can finish earlier and enjoy the remainder of your time for example paddlers could drive their cars to Fishermans Beach, Long Reef where they are picked up and driven back to "Manly SLSC" for those doing the 8km ocean paddle and for others doing the 15km ocean paddle they will be dropped off at the Manly Ferry terminal. The loading time at Long Reef and the drive time to Manly is within a 30min period, meaning you are on the water and setting off for your paddle back to your car at Long Reef.

For Stronger South/South East/South West conditions we have the ability to put you on the best downwind run possible and thats Long Reef to Palm Beach (16km). For those wanting the shorter option you can downwind from Long Reef to Mona Vale Basin 7km. You will always drop your car at the finish location first, thats where we pick you and the surf ski up from, meaning that every time you finish an ocean paddle with us you have the ability to jump in your car and head home or hang out for the coffee.

For Lighter North/North East/North West conditions we aim to minimise the travel time if the ocean isn't pumping. We want you to get your weekly ocean paddle in but we don't need to drive all over Sydney either, we keep is quick and easy. We all meet at Clontarf boat ramp car park and we load you and the surf ski and drop you at Manly SLSC for those doing the 9km ocean paddle and then for others doing the 16km ocean paddle we drop you at Long Reef.

For Stronger North/North East/ North West conditions we have the ability to put you on the best downwind run possible and thats Palm Beach to Long Reef (16km). For those wanting the shorter option you can downwind from Mona Vale Basin to Long Reef 7km. You will always drop your car at the finish location first, thats where we pick you and the surf ski up from, meaning that every time you finish an ocean paddle with us you have the ability to jump in your car and head home or hang out for the coffee.

For Strong Westerlies or Super Strong South Westerlies we will do the Botany Bay downwind run from Dolls Point to Frenchman's Beach 8km. You can do the thrill seeking downwind run in super strong wind conditions and when you finish you can put your ski on the trailer and go again.

You can just picture yourself now coming off an amazing downwind run and cracking a beer or sipping on a coffee and just reminiscing on what just happened!

"Coached" Ocean Paddles (8km)
Intro to Ocean Classes

These ocean paddles are the entry level to ocean paddling with our goal to operate the safest ocean paddle possible to you feel more confident in the ocean. We will have time with you to show you what safety equipment you need and how to use them. We will show you all the obstacles in the ocean, how to retrieve and remount back into your surf ski in all ocean conditions and how to assist others in need. We will teach you how to use the wind, swell and tide to increase your boat speed so you are pulling down runners with the aim to start linking from one run to another.

It will be a fun short bus ride. to your destination and an amazing time out on the water with your coach and fellow paddlers who are all wanting to learn just like you.

Enjoy the coffee catch up afterwards and feel an enormous sense of pride in your mornings achievements.
